Sea Oil as Source of Global Warming
I hear water temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico at at record high temperatures for June. Suppose scientists have learned what I suspect: Oil floating in water captures heat from the sun, and keeps it, holds onto it, making it difficult to be released. Even as it breaks up, do small quantities of sun-baked oil capture and store heat, not unlike (solid form) a piece of coal heated by fire? The net change in temperature of water in the Gulf in this vicinity would then go up at an accelerated rate. As the oil breaks up (as it surely will in the coming storm, Hurricane Alex), it spreads quickly across an ever widening area, warming it on an accelerated basis. Even in the marshes, weeds, and wetlands, this would be true. Let's hope this is all not the case. And this is before the toxification of animals and the poisoning of the food chain. One pundit says we are looking at the "poisoning of 40% of the global food chain." No, this can't be. Furthermore, I wonder, is this hideous event just a "mistake in the affairs of humankind, or in science," or, is this ominous state of being more akin to a "Biblical Event?"

Our Hideous Folly
We have had since 1974, the famous OPEC oil crises, to develop a policy that would have us move away from foreign-purchased oil. 36 years and what have we done? We have done nothing. Now, we witness BP using completely inadequate technology to do what apparently no one knows how to do well--operate successfully in a deep-water environment, one mile down or more. Somebody help me out, name a classic tale on the folly in human nature that would threaten the very civilization upon which  all depend, humans and animals, alike....any more poignantly than this catastrophe is doing.

Take It Elsewhere
Regarding the idea of putting a 13-story mosque on the site of 9.11.01, in the name of "building a bridge between east and west," is this not a hideous gambit? I don't recall any Shinto temples at the site of Pearl Harbor. Why not approach the President of Iran and suggest maybe a 15 story Jewish temple in the middle of Tehran, or maybe a Christian, high-gothic cathederal in downtown Ankara as but a gesture of common friendship? And the commentator may be on to something when he points out that in Islamic culture, placing a mosque at the site of the vanquished has historical validity. And then, what about the Islamic braggards in London who assert they will one day fly the flag of the Caliphate over London and Washington, D.C. Are you listening, congressional delegations?
