Preservation Society of Fall River Posts New Promotional Video

Thanks to the brilliant videography of Paul Martin, the Preservation Society of Fall River has just produced and launched on YouTube its new promotional video. Congratulations to President Jim Soule and his team, and thank you for the opportunity.

Giant Smart Envelope, Underwater

The basic idea is to modify deep-sea fishing technology so that what is designed in essence is a large "smart envelope" that can be deployed to capture oil, then cleaned, rewound, and used again. Electronically manipulated ribs in the envelope allow it to be shaped to optimally surround the field of floating toxic material.

Large, Impregnbable, Underwater Container Captures Oil

Instead of building an 1100 ton rectangle that slips over the leaking well-head, you design an impregnable geodesic dome that effectively seals the escaping material into the concave shape, a sufficiently large volume to allow vacuum hoses to be attached from several locations to retrieve the oil. The dome could be 10 m wide, 100 m wide, or 1000 meters wide-- multiple domes could be employed to control all the oil escaping until such time as the intersecting well can be completed.

URGENT NEWS: Here is a proposed solution for removing massive amounts of oil and related contaminants floating in the Gulf of Mexico. For BP and other companies who may be interested-- who can believe this hasn't been considered before?

RE: Q2 2010...Hallelujah, It’s Summer

Dear friends,
No need to go into any “tough times” talk, we all know how inescapably daunting times are. In addition to several significant proposals outstanding (more than we have seen in some time) some good news takes the following forms, briefly put:

Fall River Preservation Society (http://www.fallriverpreservation.org), we have just completed and posted to YouTube, a 6+ minute history and promotional video, one that will be used to help raise funds and move ahead on important projects for the organization and city of Fall River. Thanks to President Jim Soule and his great group— we had a lot of fun doing the video, especially the shoot at Billy’s Café. Special thanks to Maestro Paul Martin, videographer (http://www.paulmartinvideo.com). New links to be available, shortly. This video builds on a series of four promotional videos completed for the Massachusetts Department of Tourism, in 2009— see http://current.com/news/90581971_fall-river-now-restaurants-nightspots.htm

Next Generation Press (http://www.nextgenerationpress.org), we are finishing up a new book, another in a series, this one titled, “Crises & Hope: Youth Turn A Lens on the World,” a collection of photos and captions created by young people from sixteen counties reflecting life on four continents, designed to raise awareness among all of us as to “what troubles them, and what gives them hope in their close-by world, whether in a deeply etched slum of East Africa, or a well-off suburb in northwestern United States." A Project of Adobe Youth Voices and What Kids Can Do, http://www.whatkidscando.org, edited by Barbara Cervone.

DxPath, Inc., a new medical diagnosis company, aaaForay has just completed the design of a new graphic identity which will serve as the cornerstone for a multi-faceted marketing/sales effort. Package design, labeling, web development are all still to come. This start-up company will offer customized diagnostic services based on advanced medical technology and will utilize the web in innovative ways in an effort to build market presence, position and market share.

Fall River Mill Owner’s Association: For this fledgling organization (http://www.frmoa.com) about which I am honored to be able to claim some role in founding, we are busy completing the tasks of organizing our legal structure. We are also underway with an initiative that will create a database of comprehensive information on each mill in the City, what its economic status is, and what each could become in this new century. Then, we are planning our first-ever, Mill Owner’s Ball, for October of this year. The goal is to raise money for the organization, and to celebrate the history of the mills while pointing into the future by which we expect to help convert the mills into 21st-century hubs of small business innovation and enterprise. The FRMOA made its first presentation on the Richard Urban Show (local access Cable TV) in the spring of this year, a timely opportunity to present the organization and its mission to the greater public in Fall River. This program will be posted to Blip.TV (http://www.blip.tv), shortly.

FREE Initiative (Google Fall River Energy Enterprise): This undertaking, made well over a year ago on behalf of positioning Fall River for growth and prosperity in future decades, is moving a a snail’s pace, frankly, since the city now has a new Mayor who is understandably finding his way. However, I am pleased to report a terrific initiative currently underway is in some measure a consequence of our work creating the FREE Initiative. Plans to redesign the highway system in the center of the city complete with bridges, entry ramps and exits anticipating growth, commerce and future waterfront development are now commencing thanks to the strong efforts of Jacobs Engineering, MASS DOT, the State of Massachusetts, representatives from Congress, officials of the City itself, and many others. This is exciting to witness, especially given that a new train station is due to be completed in Fall River by 2017, a new bus station is in the works, as are any number of sustainable energy projects ignited by the presentation of the FREE Initiative back in April, 2009. University of Fall River: Against long odds, I was honored and surprised to be asked to present this exciting concept, also on the Richard Urban Show, just a few weeks ago. This short, half-hour elaboration presented the economic, educational and cultural case for such an institution in the city of Fall River where no comparable institution presently exists or has existed. The concept can be seen in graphic terms in the form of a calendar, seen here (note the blue link, top left, http://www.designforbusiness.us/), one that sets forth the philosophy and orientation of what would be a world-class, technology-driven institution whose mission is to matriculate students committed to “stewardship of the earth.” Look for more on this topic in the months, ahead. The program is also scheduled to be posted to Blip TV and other creative video portals before long.

eCommerce and our AmericanFlagPosters.us products: One major institution is reviewing this line of products with an eye toward broad distribution. We can only continue to push this along in the belief buyers will find our posters capture the spirit of the times and point to the future by recalling key ideals embodied in our history. Our graphic products hang in schools, have been distributed to soldiers in Walter Reed Army Hospital, and are typically given as special-occasion gifts. A set of seven is reportedly hanging in the Green Zone, Baghdad. See http://www.americanflagposters.us. The new series, American Flag Revival, is here, http://www.americanflagposters.us/catalog/c1_p1.html

Tough Times, The Long View, and the University of Fall River!

BP Catastrophe in Gulf: Along with almost everyone, to say we think often of the terrible catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, the “oil spill,” is a terrific understatement. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who are associated with the effort to alleviate, correct and learn by this unprecedented calamity. In the belief that surely someone must have considered such solutions before this, we have added our own ideas (to the thousands submitted by American citizens, so far) as to how to deal with the current mess. Tragically, it appears after 70+ days not a single soul on planet Earth can effectively cap this hideous leak one mile down at the bottom of the Gulf. As was true in Roman days, it seems what we value most is becoming the source of our own undoing. Our contribution is here, http://www.georgedelany.com/brand_news_from_delany.html

Call on me if you have any kind of important, brand-building communications exercise in need of creative resolution, either in print, or on-line. We have abundant and excellent resources to bring to bear on most any challenging communications assignment from web development to strategic marketing, from brand identity design to photo/video...across a variety of mediums and markets, we would be delighted to assist. I would be pleased to discuss your concern with you at the first convenient moment.

Help Haitians: You may want to consider contributing to the Haiti Projects. The simple purchase of an item from their store would go a long way toward helping the folks, there, most especially in the aftermath of the earthquake.

I have taken particular interest in Niall Ferguson’s new book, “The Ascent of Money,” and commend it to you (pundits say, “You mean, decent of money.”  See http://www.amazon.com/Ascent-Money-Financial-History-World/dp/1594201927/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277905235&sr=8-1). With dour talk of a “great new depression” in the wind, may you have a safe, prosperous, and inspired summer.

In the spirit of fresh strawberries,

George Delany, President
